About the event

Please register by January 20th. Email retreat manager, Diane at dimarkis@outlook.com to register or for more info.

Bill was trained as a physician and worked in emergency medicine and general practice. His interest in educating patients resulted in his writing and producing medical and lifestyle programs for television. After training as a psychotherapist, he spent 8 years working with individuals, couples and families.

As a part of his own process of growth, he discovered the practice of mindfulness. Seeing the profound benefits in his own life, he trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Bill was a co-founder and the Medical Director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Clinic at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto. From 1995 until 2016 he also taught MBSR in Huntsville. He has trained with many of the senior dharma teachers in the west and has spent time practicing in India and Burma. His current teacher is Matthew Flickstein. Bill has stopped teaching MBSR and now focuses his energy on leading his sangha and retreats.

Since 2015, the retreats have been held at The St. Francis Centre, near Orangeville, Ontario. Pre-Covid, the minimum number of retreatants was 25. The requirement for the past 2 retreats was only 15 retreatants. Due to rising costs, The St. Francis Centre has raised their fees, and they now require that we again pay for a minimum of 25 retreatants.

In addition to Bill and Diane:

if we get 23 retreatants, the cost is $570 each.

if we get 22 retreatants, the cost is $595 each.

if we get 21 retreatants, the cost is $625 each.

if we get 20 retreatants, the cost is $655 each.

The fee covers 3 meals per day, snacks and individual rooms with a private bathroom. Gluten-free meals are available at an extra fee of $10/day.

Currently four scholarships are available for $300. We could increase the number of scholarships if we receive more donations.
