Awakening to Life with Mindfulness of Breathing

July 10 - August 28

Sunday mornings 9:00-10:30 and additional weekly guided meditation TBD

online Course via Zoom with Sarah Carlin-Ball

Overview

This 8-week course will explore some of the main tenets of Buddhist teaching with the support of Anapanasati. Translated as Mindfulness of Breathing, Anapanasati is a 16-step practice that examines our experience of body and mind to uncover the truth of suffering, why we suffer, and the possibility of freedom from that suffering. These are the Four Noble Truths; we hear of them so often because of the profound understanding they offer. In addition, our exploration will include various practices from the Satipatthana Sutta (Four Foundations of Mindfulness) to deepen our insight into this human experience and what is meant by “Freedom.”

The course will include a weekly class for meditation instruction, teaching, and questions. An additional optional weekly guided mediation will be available. These are offered via Zoom. As a support to your practice, reading material and contemplations will be emailed each week.

Registration fee is $35 to support administration costs. This course is offered in the traditional practice of Dana. Dana for the teacher is welcome and supports the Dharma in the reciprocal practises of generosity and offering. But it is not required; the teachings are offered freely and no one will be turned away due to financial concerns. Scholarships are available.

The course will  benefit anyone who is interested in deepening their practice. Anapanasati can become a guide in and of itself that you will then always have available.

Registration fee can be refunded up to 7 days before the course begins.

Sarah Carlin-Ball is one of several Sangha Leaders that mentor with Bill Knight in the Muskoka Mindfulness Community. Her practice began twelve years ago with MBSR and she has attended short and long retreats every year since. She has practiced for many years with Terry Hagan and Mala Sikka, core teachers at the Dharma Centre of Canada. In 2017 she undertook a year of teacher training with non-dual teacher Matt Flickstein and continues to study under his guidance. Exploring and sharing the dharma, painting and poetry, and family and friends (furry ones too) are her passions.
